	Whether you’re writing a report or leading a discussion on one of my books, here are some questions and topics to throw into the mix. A lot of them came from readers who have written to me and told me what they thought my books were about. Answering even one of the questions will add something to your book report because no one else will have answered it in the very same way. Good luck.

FAMILY

“Loving your family is a lot harder than loving a cute guy.”—Hilary, age 14

1. Describe Kelly’s family and her feelings about the people in it.

2. Describe Tomas’s family and his feelings about the people in it.

3. What other families or communities do we see in One Night? Why are they important to Kelly or Tomas?

HONESTY

1. What is Kelly hiding from or lying about to Tomas?

2. What is she hiding from or lying about to herself?

3. Do any of her lies or cover-ups ever help or protect someone?

DRUGS and ALCOHOL

“My brother’s in AA and he’s 16. I like how you showed Kelly working at being sober. It’s like that.”—Cait, age 18.

1. Kelly has a rule: Control what you can control. What things can she control? What can’t she control?

2. What “work” does Kelly do to stay sober? What would be the hardest part?
